REVIEW: L’Oreal Color Riche Gold Obsession Collection

When metallic lipsticks came into the scene again last year, I wasn’t sold. And even when Colourpop and Colourette were really making it easy to own a metallic lippie by dropping their prices really low for these, I still couldn’t bring myself to find it appealing. It was just too loud and shiny, and a bit tacky for my taste. I didn’t want to walk around looking like I ate lechon and had greasy lips left to tell the truth.

So when I received this in my mail, I was kind of skeptical at first. I was afraid I wouldn’t like it.

The L’Oreal Color Riche Gold Obsession consists of four lipsticks infused with real 24-karat gold, for that metallic sheen and subtle dimension.

I’m not bold enough to use Le Gold as an all-out lipstick, but I did fall in love with Mocha Gold in a heartbeat. The real question is, what would it look like with Le Gold on top as a highlighter?

Mocha Gold with Le Gold as a highlighter/topper

Le Gold was surprisingly subtle as a topper/highlighter. It wasn’t too loud at all, even though the color of Le Gold can be daunting! It took me around three swipes to get the right amount of shimmer I am comfortable wearing on my lips.

But even without Le gold as a topper, Mocha Gold (as well as the other shades) proved to have plenty of attention-grabbing sparkle.

If you’re wondering which one suits your skin tone best, know that all four complement Filipina skin tone well! However, for morena skin types, the Mocha Gold (shown in the photos above) would be a great choice, with its sophisticated deep brown shade with a hint of sheen that will surely turn heads. For fair skin tones, the Color Riche Gold Obsession in Rose Gold will do wonders to brighten up your complexion and bring a pop of color to your face. It’s a shade that’s both playful and fierce! Finally, the Rouge Gold is your classic red shade with a touch of shimmer that will go well with all skin tones. Personally, I love the Mocha Gold a lot because it makes my skin look even fairer!

Pro-tip: Use a liner to define the edges of your lips prior to application of lipstick, for that picture-perfect pout.

These lippies pack the perfect statement shades for a night out with the gang, don’t you think?
