Boxing enthusiasts gathered for the Fight of the Century at Sparks Club and Sports Bar, Tomas Morato, Quezon City

Seated at the second level of Guilly’s Tomas Morato is the up-and-coming Sparks Club and Sports Bar, a soon-to-open 24/7 club and sports bar in one. Despite being weeks away from their planned grand opening, Sparks opened their doors to the public to offer a place for boxing enthusiasts to commune and watch the Mayweather-Pacman fight as it happens. As the whole world froze in anticipation and excitement for what was considered to be the “Fight of the Century”, we found our sanctuary in the company of good food, a top-of-the-line entertainment system, and fellow Pinoys who matched our level of enthusiasm for the bout.

There were wide-screen TVs on every corner of the room, and a surround sound system to boot. The place has yet to be embellished with sports memorabilia such as signed jerseys and other collectibles, but showed promise in becoming a premier sports bar for sports enthusiasts. The concept of 24/7 entertainment is very new, and with Sparks’ partnership with Solaire Sports and Casino, we could be closer to realizing this than we once thought.

While the most anticipated boxing match didn’t quite turned out as we all hoped it would, my experience at Sparks is definitely one for the books. I came with my boyfriend, Kyle, who has never watched a Pacquiao match in his entire life, and managed to convince him that it was going to be fun to watch the match with everyone else instead of grabbing PPV and enjoying the match in solitary confinement. There’s a certain kind of joy to know that you share the same fire with everyone else. Every landed punch or small gesture that promised victory made everyone in the room jump and rave for joy. More than the match, what awed me was the power of one man to gather everyone every time he gets into the ring to fight.

If Sparks Tomas Morato is too up north for you, go check out their branch in Malate, Manila. Unlike the one at Guilly’s, it has VIP rooms, karaoke, and spa rooms for guests, but both will not disappoint with their menu, drinks, and excellent customer service. Make sure to keep an eye out for announcements of their grand opening soon!-HANA
