Breakfast is served at the Early Bird Breakfast Club. Read on to find out how its premium menu offerings fare and if its worth the hype.

As an old adage goes, “The early bird catches the worm.” And while true for many things that count, restaurants making the first meal of the day an all-day luxury has made it so that even night owls can have their fill of a sustaining first meal any time of the day. One such restaurant is the Early Bird Breakfast Club located in the Fort Strip in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. For anyone whose definition of comfort food is spelled B-R-E-A-K-F-A-S-T, then this place is for you.

Various line patterns filled the room– on the furniture, the comfort room, and their walls that span tall and wide. The colors that greeted us lent a cheerful vibe to the atmosphere. We sat close to the glass walls of the entrance at one in the afternoon, a tad bit late in the day to be having breakfast, but in a place like this, anytime is a good time to enjoy your most important meal of the day.

Morning paper, anyone?

The menu was printed in a newspaper layout, a fitting choice to suit the breakfast vibe. Upon checking the menu, I found that most dishes were paired with their Breakfast Rice, but they also offer breakfast meals with bread, healthy offers, and breakfast bites. Their sweet breakfast choices also require special attention, and are likely to appeal to kids and adults who are fond of starting their day with a sweet treat instead of a heavy meal.

Lemon Butter Bangus (Php 325)

I opted to have the Lemon Butter Bangus, a combination of pan-seared bangus fillets and garlic lemon butter relish, garnished appealingly around the hefty serving of breakfast rice with a poached egg on top. The tangy flavor mixed with the creamy butter taste of the relish was a perfect match for the thick cuts of bangus. This one has easily become a favorite, and will probably be my default order during future visits.

Sweet Glazed Katcino (Php 375)

An equally satiating dish is Kyle’s choice, the Sweet Glazed Katcino. As can be inferred from the name, it’s katsu meets tocino, with a sweet twist all over. The crispy quality of the dried glaze covering the katcino is reminiscent of brown sugar over the surface of a banana cue — clumped and crunchy. Diced bits of tomato with the sweet katsu sauce completes the plating of this sweet and meaty dish. It was likeable enough for me to choose this dish on my next visit, but the meat underneath the glaze undeniably lacked saltiness, or a flavor contrasting with the overpowering sweetness of the glaze, which is required to keep you looking forward to your next bite.

Overall, my Lemon Butter Bangus was more than enough to make me want to plan my next visit (and another one after that!) I have yet to try their selection of coffee, though. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the breakfast meals should be offered with coffee, because breakfast is just not complete without a cup of good coffee. The restaurant, though a little pricier than other breakfast places, makes up well for it with their delectable and well-plated meals, wonderful ambiance, and warm service. If only it was closer to my place, then I’d probably be eagerly looking forward to weekend mornings and choose breakfast over an extra hour or two in bed. This has become my favorite breakfast place as it has set the standards high for great food combined with an equally great ambiance. Now, it’s time to discover new breakfast places and see how long Early Bird Breakfast Club keeps the top spot on my list.-HANA
