Satisfying Big Appetites: Big B Burgers at Maginhawa St., Sikatuna Village (Quezon City)

Big B’s quirky (and sometimes cheeky) word play on the names of their dishes will make you smile. However, beyond the unique names, does Big B have something new to offer to the crowd that has already seen one too many burger variants? Find out.

It’s pretty safe to say that we’ve seen most kinds, sizes and flavors of burgers, and it’s a challenge for all burger joints to offer something distinct and unique that will appeal to the preference (and budget!) of Pinoys. It was at Maginhawa that we discovered Big B, a burger stop which offers one-of-a-kind burgers, sides, and the whole fun package. The beauty of the name Big B lies in the fact that B can stand for anything. While it most probably means burgers by default, the name allows the brains behind Big B to play with the name as they see fit. Much of the charm of the establishment comes from the wit that went into thinking of the quirky names for the dishes, as well as the signs hanging on the wall that any foodie would find easy to relate to. My favorite would have to be the sign which says “Thou shall not count the calories. Just no. Don’t. Srsly.”

Sides: BallsBalls (Php 150) and Poutine ng Ina (Mo or Personal Size for Php 65 and More/ Sharing Size for Php 120)

Before going for the main event, go on and try out the tasty sides: your choice from Ballsballs and Poutine ng Ina. They sound kooky, but trust me when I say that they’re highly recommended, especially their take on the poutine! The gravy on top is extra creamy, and the fries topped with mozzarella makes it even more inviting. It’s a great way to enjoy fries in a new light.

Takoyaki Fries

Their Takoyaki Fries is off the menu, but we look forward to the day it becomes a featured item on their wall. If you’re a fan of takoyaki, you will enjoy savoring the familiar flavor on your fries, instead. The sweet sauce and extra creamy Japanese mayo, coupled with strips of crab meat will make you crave for the Takoyaki Fries every time you’re having your regular serving of fries. While not a new concept, this is the first time I’ve encountered it being offered in a burger joint.

Bongga Burger (starts at Php 109) and Bam Burger (starts at Php 119)

As for Big B’s burgers, they took the creativity to the next level by mixing together Pinoy favorites with the beef patty, which is the case with the Bongga burger, with the patty made of 50% beef and 50% longganisa. The Bam burger featured spam with beef, and has a milder flavor than the Bongga burger. Both variants were heavyweights in taste and level of satisfaction, and if you’re ever bitin, you can always grab a bigger serving! Choose from a quarter pounder, half pound, and one pound burgers.

Oh, and don’t forget to grab a Pink Potion with Feelings to down your burger with. Big B’s prepared quite a fun presentation for anyone who’s game! I don’t think you’ll find this kind of theatrics anywhere else, so don’t miss it!

I loved that Big B experimented with familiar flavors in order to create something special and distinctly theirs. I look forward to seeing more sides on their menu and different burger varieties in the future! Hopefully one with shawarma, maybe? :)-HANA

It is! The only thing I didn’t like about the burger was that I couldn’t add ketchup to it. I love ketchup :(
