A mall, a palengke, or both?
Who would have thought that a market in our country can have a facade that could pass for a shopping mall? From outside, this yellow building looks like any ordinary community mall, with the conspicuous SM logo in front. Apparently, this “marketmall” is a two-in-one place: a public market (palengke) and a mall!
What used to be a former Kadiwa Center is now a marketmall, thanks to the public-private partnership between SM and the local government of Dasmarinas. With SM managing operations, you can expect mall features in this palengke: wide spaces, sanitation maintenance, covered parking, emergency clinic, and security personnel.
One can definitely look forward to an improved tenant and customer experience, as they are now treated to cleaner, safer and more convenient market experience. From the photos, you can see the clean floor in the wet section as well as the wide spaces in between rows of vendors.
Let’s just hope SM Marketmall stays this way for the sake of those who come to do their market chores! I’m also very proud of Dasmarinas’ local government for their wonderful initiative and have high hopes that other cities would follow suit and upgrade the public market in their areas. SM Marketmall is located in Dasmarinas, Cavite, near DLSU.-HANA
