Canada’s Triple O’s by White Spot now in Manila (SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City)

During the FILA’Pinas event, and while waiting to get seated at the busy Cajun Red Rock together with The Volcanoes, Fabio Ide, Michael Martinez, and Tessa Prieto-Valdez (we were crazy enough to think we can secure seats with this entourage?), we headed over to check out the newly opened Triple O’s at the back end of the third floor SM Megamall Atrium. We promised to only take a look at the menu, but Shawn and I just couldn’t keep away after the call of onion rings, fries, plus free milkshakes c/o our good friend, Florencio from ManualtoLyf.com. We placed an order of Dippin’ Chicken, Onion Rings, Fries, and three cold milkshakes, and took our seats while waiting for our food to be served.

Triple O’s had a fun and youthful vibe that I liked. One of the things that I particularly liked was the TV screen at the father end of the burger joint which features social mentions from Twitter and Instagram. That’s a really great way to amplify your brand’s following online. Plus, it’s a sure-fire way to get people talking about you. Who wouldn’t want to be featured on the Triple O’s TV Screen alongside online influencers?

The horde at Triple O’s

Our orders took only around five to ten minutes to be served, despite the influx of people who are just as excited to get their hands on Canada’s famous burger.

We refrained from ordering burgers since we had to go back to Cajun and enjoy a hearty dinner with the rest of the group, but wanted something to ease our hunger, hence, the food choices.

Onion Rings (Php 90)

I enjoyed the Onion Rings a lot. This reminded me of Burger King’s onion rings, which was fried to the right amount of sweet caramelized onion goodness, except that Triple O’s have thicker, bigger, onion rings. For twice the price, it is rightfully so. What I did love most about Triple O’s onion rings was the spicy sauce that complemented the flavor. We actually used this sauce for our Dippin’ Chicken and Fries because out of the three sauces that came along with the sides, the Onion Rings’ spicy sauce was the most flavorful.

Dippin’ Chicken Three Pieces – Ala Carte (Php 150)

Dippin’ Chicken resembled a chicken fillet measuring about four inches in length and two and a half inches wide. It was covered in crispy breading, which made the taste extra satisfying. Of course, it was the sauce that made the dish into something more than your ordinary chicken fillet. I would have preferred the buttery sauce that was partnered with the Dippin’ Chicken to have a little more spice in it, so that I would stop dipping my chicken in other sauces. Unfortunately, I think that Triple O’s Dippin’ Chicken, however novel the idea is, is priced too steeply, and there might be better alternatives for this one.

Small Fries (Php 50)

I found it amusing that Php 50 only got us small fries instead of Regular-sized fries. The Regular Fries are priced at Php 90, and would imply that regular-sized means American-sized serving. The sauce that accompanied the fries happened to be our second favorite sauce (since the butter sauce tasted too bland for our liking)

I do agree that mostly everything on the menu is priced way too high for the average Filipino minimum wage-worker (heck, one burger actually amounts to a day’s work for the Class C employee), so few tweaks should be in order just to get more Filipinos through the doors of Triple O’s. But if there is one menu on the item I would recommend you come back for every chance you get, it would have to be the extra thick Triple O’s milkshakes.

Triple O’s Milkshakes (Php 150 for Small, Php 200 for Regular)

What makes the Triple O’s Milkshakes so special? For one, they use ice cream from Big Scoop. Priced at Php 150 for Small and Php 200 for Regular, a small-sized milkshake would be enough to last you throughout the meal (if you can actually keep yourself from finishing it immediately). What I really enjoyed about it is that the blend of milk and ice cream is so seamlessly perfect that you can’t even tell there was milk in the mix. It tasted just like melted ice cream (which happened to be one of my favorite things in the world. Melted Ice Cream!!!) It wasn’t as annoyingly thick as Caliburger’s, and just had the right amount of creaminess to satisfy your milkshake craving. I had the Chocolate Milkshake, while my friends ordered Strawberry Milkshake for themselves. They say that the Strawberry Milkshake had the taste of fresh strawberries, so I’m looking forward to trying that one out.

Triple O’s Chocolate Milkshake – 5/5

While I probably won’t be coming back for the sides, I’m very eager to have a taste of Triple O’s Canadian Burgers and find out for myself what really sets them apart from other burger joints. Again, I find the prices too steep. Burgers are priced at Php 250 up, and some combos priced at Php 400. That could get you a full meal at Yabu already. Add a little more and you can enjoy a more satisfying buffet meal! But as with all new things, and despite the hefty price tag, Canada’s Triple O’s is worth a try.-HANA

Their milkshakes look very yummy, indeed. I’m leaning towards the Strawberry Milkshake, all the more because you mentioned the taste of fresh strawberries. :)

I love how they have a very old school diner feel with their menu! Love it! I should definitely give this a try soon :)
