Review: Odds Cafe & Nail Spa at Tomas Morato cor. Scout Castor, Quezon City

I stumbled upon this Victorian-inspired coffee shop on a friend’s wall, and I couldn’t resist visiting the place. It seems to qualify for my list of happy places, and there were so many elements that got me wanting to have a feel of the place for myself. So one fine Sunday afternoon, I, with three of my blogger friends, went to have an enjoyable afternoon at Odds Cafe & Nail Spa.

Odds Cafe & Nail Spa is located in an obscure spot but less than a minute away from the corner of Tomas Morato and Scout Castor. It wasn’t blessed with a bigger space, but they made good use of what they’re given, seeing as how the first floor can seat around twenty customers at a time. The second floor, on the other hand, is dedicated for the nail spa services. My friends and I love to describe the place as “instagrammable”. Its picturesque and instagram-worthy interiors and embellishments make it a place I would recommend people who have a taste for things like this. I also loved the chalk-strewn walls, but be careful not to lean your head on the chalk!

I was intrigued by the concept at first, and couldn’t piece it in my head how a coffee shop and a nail spa would jive well with each other. During our visit, we found that while it was not a usual concept (in fact, it must be the first of its kind), it was a welcomed idea. Imagine getting your weekly mani-pedi while the boyfriend comfortably waits downstairs with a cup of coffee.Or maybe, the boyfriend could join your for a foot spa upstairs as you sip on your favorite drinks.  It’s nothing short of a win-win scenario where everyone’s happy.

Odds Cafe & Nail Spa is the kind of place you’d frequent to hang out. I imagine that many students would love the coffee shop because it’s located in a quiet street, and the place is conducive for studying. The management seems to be no stranger to people who stay in coffee shops for hours, and they’re very well prepared to accommodate students and people with deadlines in the comforts of their coffee shop. Wi-fi connection and numerous power outlets are available for the guests’ use.

Food & Drinks

You see, it wasn’t just the interiors that are instagram-worthy. The effort put into the aesthetics of the food and drinks would not disappoint as well.

Pastries: Waffle Pops (Php 100 for five pieces)

These heart-shaped Waffle Pops caught our eyes in an instant. It’s five pieces of waffle pops for Php 100, with your choice of syrup (Caramel, Strawberry, Raspberry, Maple, or Chocolate). The frozen ball of whipped cream  It makes a great treat to munch on while you enjoy your glass of frappe or coffee.

Popcorn Frappucino (Php 130/140)

You wouldn’t want to miss out on their drinks, either. The Popcorn Frappe is one of my favorite drinks, because the drink tasted just like a caramel popcorn! And like most of their frappes, it’s topped with a ball of frozen whipped cream and glazed with caramel syrup. If you’re cutting down on the calories, you might want to opt out of the whipped cream. The frozen ball of whipped cream, which turns out to be an unexpected discovery by their barista, is another unique feature of Odds Cafe.

Tiramisu Frappe (left; Php 130/ Php 140) and Salted Caramel Frappe (Php 130/ Php 140)

Coffee enthusiasts who love their drinks bitter sweet, with the taste of coffee overpowering other flavors, would enjoy the Tiramisu Frappe. Out of all the frappes we had that afternoon, the Tiramisu Frappe had the best mix. The Salted Caramel Frappe, regarded as one of the coffee shops bestsellers from their roster of drinks, was a bit too sweet for me. It’s something caramel lovers would go for.

The Belgian Waffles were tasty, too! It has nutella and caramel syrup to dip your Belgian waffles in. Other than the Waffle Pops and Belgian Waffles, they have four cupcake variants to choose from (Red Velvet, Vanilla, Nutella, Kitkat). I’m looking forward to my next visit so that I can try their Nutella and Kitkat cupcakes! They also have Brownie Cookies and Chocolate Chip Cookies at Php 20/ piece.

Odds Cafe & Nail Spa (Nail Spa located on the Second Floor)

Spa Experience

Moving on to the second floor, we were transported into an entirely different experience. It was like two separate shops combined, with the color themes and interiors of the second floor worlds apart from the Vintage-inspired cafe on the first floor. Blues and browns permeated the walls, pillows, and sofas of the nail spa. It looked like a cozy haven you’d retreat into every weekend for that much-deserved pampering.

The spa can accommodate four to five guests at a time, and offers nail spa, paraffin wax, threading, eyelash extensions, waxing, and hand and foot massage services. They have a TV available for the guests’ viewing pleasure, and you can also bring your own DVD if there’s any movie you feel like watching while enjoying their services. They also have their own list of movies you can choose from. Like the cafe, they have wi-fi and power outlets available for the guests’ use.

The spa is normally dim-lit to make the environment conducive for relaxation, but during our visit, we requested for the lights to be turned on so that we can take nice photos. I had a mani-pedi service and found that they carried international nail polish brands such as OPI, Orly,China Glaze, and even UV Gel Nail Polish. You can also choose from matte and cracked nail polish selections, if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary. The service was great, but took a little while to finish (over 2 hours for a mani-pedi). I found the rates a bit pricier than others, with their packages starting at Php 600. In the future, I look forward to availing their spa services packaged with drinks and treats from their cafe.

The nail spa would be a perfect venue for bridal showers and other celebrations involving a small, intimate group of no more than ten people. It’s comfy and well-ventilated, plus they have a number of services to choose from. The best part is you can order drinks and have it served while you are enjoying a relaxing time at the spa. Odds Cafe & Nail Spa offers a one-of-a-kind experience. I have not encountered any coffee shop that has the same concept as Odds’, which makes it an interesting destination you should not miss out on visiting. If you’re curious and would love to drop by and try it for yourself, Odds Cafe & Nail Spa is currently on their Soft Opening until the end of April. This means Buy 1 Take 1 on all handcrafted beverages from 1 PM- 4 PM, and 20% off all Nail Spa Services.

It’s less than a minute walk from the corner of Scout Castor and Timog. They have a sign at the corner pointing you towards the right direction, so you won’s miss it! :D
