Banzai: The Great Authentic Japanese Buffet Restaurant (Mall of Asia, Pasay City)

I won’t try to hide the fact that I was beyond ecstatic to dine in Banzai: The Great Authentic Japanese Buffet Restaurant. I’ve always loved Japanese food, so knowing that an all-authentic Japanese buffet restaurant opened up in Manila is a big deal for me, and getting to explore and eat all the Japanese food I can get my hands on makes me a happy little girl.

The interiors make the experience more believable. In one part of the buffet area, Japanese lanterns hung from the ceiling, and in another dining area, the signages painted on the wall mimics that of Tokyo’s colorful lights that lends its colors to the nightlife of citizens and tourists in Tokyo. Of course, during lunch time, the lights weren’t lit up, but I imagine that during dinner time, it’s going to give you a good feel of the Tokyo night life.

Turn your head to any direction and you’ll find a reason to be fascinated with how much effort they put to make your dining experience a memorable one. There’s a dining area called The Sumo Arena, with couches and seats inside a huge circular space similar to that of  the popular fighting venue of the Japanese heavyweights. Diners can also choose to get comfy at the Modern Japan dining area, marked by stylish gray couches with a contemporary ambiance.

The Buffet

I’m not a master of the Japanese cuisine, but I found that they had every Japanese food I can imagine. From the usual sushi and sashimi offerings, to takoyaki and okonomiyaki, teppanyaki, ramen and more. They had so much that I was unable to try everything they had :< This definitely gives me a good reason to come back and have a taste of all the other dishes that I missed.

Dishes are prepared upon request to ensure freshness and best quality. Guests don’t have to stand and wait for the chefs to finish cooking your order. The staff will deliver it to your table once the dishes are ready.

Banzai boasts of the authenticity of their dishes. From the chefs that hail from Japan who oversee the preparation of the dishes, ensuring that food is cooked upon request, down to the ingredients used which are all imported from Japan, Banzai makes it clear that they don’t skimp on quality.

Takoyaki (with squid) and Kaniyaki (with Crabstick): There really isn’t any way to tell one from the other without biting into it and seeing what’s stuffed inside.

There is, of course, a whole section for desserts

Desserts!

Even though they already went all out on the Japanese dishes, they didn’t skimp on the desserts as well. Expect a huge number of dessert offerings to satisfy your sweet tooth. I found the desserts a little too sweet for me (and this is coming from someone who lives on candies and chocolates), which is why I opted for the green tea-flavored desserts. I also took a bite of their sushi dessert, which is almost the same as a regular sushi with the rice and mango at the core, but with the wrapper substituted with red-colored sugar.

The Great Teppanyaki Show of Banzai Japanese Buffet Restaurant

Another pride of Banzai is their incredible Teppanyaki show, where they feature their talented chefs cooking teppanyaki. If that sounded plain and boring to you, I assure you that it’s the exact opposite. There was so much shaker-flying, egg-flinging action happening for me to divert my attention anywhere else. And getting seated in front while they set the stove ablaze had us literally fired up (we felt how hot it was from three meters away. The chefs are amazing to withstand the heat while putting on an amazing show). The teppanyaki show happens twice a day, so make sure not to miss it!

While I don’t think you won’t run out of attractions at Banzai, they even went ahead and thought of having a Trick Art Gallery! It’s the perfect way to end our dining experience at Banzai, by having our photos taken with realistic trick paintings of a sumo arena, a scene in the olden days of Japan, and some ninja action as our backdrop. Of course, there are costumes and headpieces available to make you fit right into the scene. We were taking photos and posing like crazy.

It was only a few days since I was last here at Banzai, but I’m already anticipating my next visit. There’s still so much I haven’t tried! And for the price, I can say that it’s very good value for money, most especially if you’re a big fan of Japanese food. I don’t think there’s a better place to get the same quality of Japanese dining as that of Banzai’s. If you’re looking for the best place to enjoy a Japanese experience, drop by Banzai and have a feel of Japan right at the heart of Manila.-HANA
