Many people nowadays are becoming more conscious about their health, eating and choosing healthier dishes over the convenience of fast food. This is especially more true during the lenten season, when we give up our staple meat-laced dishes for vegetables and fish in an act of fasting. Last week, during our hotel stay at Best Western Plus Antel Hotel, we were able to enjoy a lite and healthy dinner at their restaurant, Granvia Cafe, and here are the dishes that you might find preferable for the Lenten Season.
The Squid and Tofu al Ajillo was the first to be served, and while it’s not exactly something you’ll have to start your meal, it was really delicious. Al Ajillo is a method of cooking which means to be sauteed and mixed in with garlic and olive oil, and with this dish, squid and tofu. The use of tofu on this dish made it more satisfying despite the lack of meat ingredients as it already makes up for it.
The Crispy Fish Dumpling helped make the salad more exciting. On my first bite, I didn’t know it wasn’t filled with meat, until we were told that it was fish that was stuffed inside the crisply fried wrapper.
The Mixed Curry Vegetable was one of the dishes that really stuck with me. I’m a big fan of curry, and while this isn’t a new concept, this is a good way to make me eat some greens. I also enjoyed having grilled salmon for a change, since I almost always have it raw in Japanese and buffet restaurants. The sultana brown rice made the dish more guilt-free! Knowing that it’s brown rice made me more confident to eat more rice than I normally do, and the curry still went well with the Sultana brown rice.
We had a refreshing Dalandan Juice to down our meal, and we couldn’t stop talking about how good it was, iced or not. At the end of our dinner, we had a platter of fruits for dessert (talk about healthy! No sugar or syrups at all!) and a glass of Frozen Watermelon and Mint Mojito. It had very little alcohol in it, so if I didn’t know better, I would think that it was just Watermelon and Mint Juice. While I found it equally refreshing, the Dalandan Juice was on a different level than other lemonades and citrus drinks I’ve tried, hence, the bias. I would have asked for a second pitcher, but I remembered that we had to run off to experience spampering at Antel Hotel’s Toccare Spa.
The Lenten Menu will be available at the Granvia Cafe until the end of the month of April. For those on a diet, or those who just wants to enjoy lenten-ready fusion cuisine, check out Granvia Cafe’s Lenten Season Menu. It’s located on the fourth floor of the A.Venue Tower, and you can walk in to enjoy a well-prepared meal with family and friends. I found that the place is a suitable location for meetings and gatherings, because it’s conveniently located in Makati, making it an accessible venue for meetings, and very cozy as well. It was our rendezvous point for the afternoon, before we explored the rest of Best Western Plus Antel Hotel’s amenities and accommodations, and we found the place comfortable and the staff, welcoming and with their best foot forward.-HANA
