NARS International Makeup Artist Janice Daoud for Rustan’s NARSissist Makeup Workshop

NARS International Makeup Artist to the stars Janice Daoud held a two-day makeup workshop at Rustan’s Department Store in Ayala Grandmall and Shangri-la Mall, Mandaluyong. The free-for-all makeup workshop organized by Rustan’s and NARS was done in batches and attended by a large number of makeup enthusiasts, eager to learn new makeup techniques from Janice Daoud herself.

Janice shared a lot of makeup tips that will prove helpful to newbie makeup fans and professional makeup artists in honing their craft. While I’m already a makeup artist myself, I still learned a number of tips that I would love to try in my gigs. One of the things she shared was that the use of eye cream is not limited to the eyes. The eye cream can be used around the lip area, too! Now eye creams will be more multi-purpose and indispensable more than ever.

Janice mentioned that one should use concealer after applying foundation. It achieves a more effective contouring, especially under the eyes. She also applied concealer undereye in an inverted triangle form, and showed how it helped lift the eyes better than just slapping it on the dark circles beneath the eyes.

The NARS foundation looked so natural when applied. It’s one of those foundations you can use for the “no-makeup makeup look” and you can also control the coverage of the foundation depending on how thick or heavy you apply. Janice shares that it’s always better to apply cream or liquid foundation using clean hands than a brush or sponge, because the warmth of the hands makes the makeup easier to blend. To tweak the coverage or the heaviness of the foundation, you can use a slightly wet sponge or brush to make application thinner and more sheer. The NARS foundation is also not prone to oxidizing, so if you have acidic skin, this might suit you because the color never changes or goes darker.

For the eyes, it’s a big NO-NO to apply concealer on the eyelids. Because of its creamy consistency, it will drag down the eyeshadow and other products on top of it once it melts or goes south. Instead of using white eyeliner for the waterline in the lower eyelid, use a nude eyeliner. White sometimes appears too strong, and when you look closer at the waterline, it’s a nudish pink color. Using a color closer to the natural gets you the brighter eye effect that you’re going for, but doesn’t look as overpowering as white. Another trend this spring is to line the lower eyelid with bright spring colors like a beautiful shade of green or teal. It’s subtle, but it’s spring-perfect.

My favorite take-away from the workshop was the NARS Multistick which works well as an eyeshadow, a blush, or maybe even a lip tint. How can one product have so many uses? That will be really useful to ladies on the go who doesn’t have enough time to put on a ton of makeup, but still wants to look refreshed.
