TGI Fridays at Ayala Center Cebu

You know that on any given day, given the choice, I would not think of dining at TGI Fridays. Let’s face it: the food is great, but it’s expensive. It’s mostly foreigners and tourists that are not accustomed to other cultures’ cuisine that frequent the place like we frequent our fast food establishments. Last week was different. It was my the eve of Art’s birthday and I wanted to take him to TGI Fridays so that he can try it for himself. It was also the perfect opportunity to use my Bistro Gift Certificate, since there are no other Bistro restaurants in Cebu other than TGI Fridays.

It was surprising for me to find that Fridays was packed on a Tuesday night in Cebu. For one, as claimed by my Cebu-based blogger friends, the Cebu market is very stingy. Thus, number two, the plethora of cheaper alternatives available to the Cebu crowd threatens to take away the Fridays market. But on that night that we chose to ate there, it was bustling with people. None waiting, but the waiters and servers had their hands full.

Buffalo Wings with Celery Sticks and Bleu Cheese Dip (Php 295 for 6 pieces, Php 450 for 12 pieces)

We tried our best not to get too full because we planned to go to a popular pizza place later that evening. We settled for 6 pieces of Buffalo Wings, a Jack Daniel’s Burger, and a large chocolate milkshake.

Buffalo Wings

Comparing the Buffalo wings to the photo in their menu, this one seemed dry and lacking in sauce. It wasn’t super spicy as I had expected either. My initial reaction to the bleu cheese was not good, mainly because I had a previous dislike for it when I tried it in another wings joint. But as my tongue grew accustomed to the taste, I realized how good bleu cheese was and how well it complemented the slightly spicy set of buffalo wings. I have grown to love bleu cheese <3

However, I skipped out on the celery sticks. :p

TGI Fridays Jack Daniel’s Burger (Php 485)

The Jack Daniel’s Burger features a 7-oz juicy pure ground beef patty, glazed with Jack Daniel’s Sauce, and topped with two strips of crispy bacon. The Jack Daniel’s sauce that was served on the side made everything wonderful: the fries, the wings, the burgers, anything! And the fries were thick and not oily or soggy, just the way we wanted it.

TGI Fridays Chocolate Milkshake (Php 180)

Easily the most expensive milkshake I’ve tried, and one which might be at par with Uma Thurman’s $5 milkshake from the movie. “Pulp Fiction”, this milkshake was perfectly blended and delicious! However, the first glass of milkshake served to us was not cold anymore. It felt like it sat on the table for hours, and someone just decided to serve it to us when we ordered for a chocolate milkshake. The staff eagerly replaced our tall glass of milkshake, but it took a while (we finished our meal before they returned with our “slightly colder” milkshake).

Bistro GCs — a great gift for the holidays!

Someone once told me that the food in TGI Fridays was dry, and that kept me away from squandering fortune or even trying it for myself. I am glad to finally have discover otherwise. The food was great, albeit expensive. I can definitely see myself coming back to try the other dishes, even if I have to save up for it. -HANA
