Review: Going Italian at Spaghetti Factory, Ayala Center Cebu

Spaghetti Factory, Ayala Center Cebu

I had the amazing chance to check out Spaghetti Factory at Ayala Center Cebu during my trip to the Queen City of the South just last week. It was my first time to try out Spaghetti Factory, even though they have a branch in Makati. The experience was also memorable because I got to meet two Cebu-based bloggers I’ve been excited to see: Gay from  www.ExoticPhilippines.info and Angeli from www.FoodieCrafts.com. After reading my review, go check out their two cents on Spaghetti Factory on their respective blogs as well!

Spaghetti Factory was the brainchild of husband-wife team Dieter and Vangie Jaehn. Dieter, who is German, met Vangie on board at the Crystal Symphony, one of the most expensive and highest rated cruise ships in the world. After getting married and choosing to settle in the Philippines over Dieter’s country, Germany, they both started working on their dream to open their own restaurant. The couple easily agreed on the concept: versatile, delicious, and especially popular with the youngsters, they decided to go Italian. What sets them apart from other Italian restaurants is the versatility that they offer: you can combine your favorite pasta with your favorite sauce at a very affordable price. Not to mention, everything they cook is cooked a la minute or fresh from scratch.

Spaghetti Factory is located on the third floor of the Ayala Terraces. With the help of the guides around Ayala Center Cebu, we were able to find it. If you’re familiar with the mall, you won’t even sweat looking for the place. From afar, it’s very easy to find with its mix of purple and yellow. At first, as the name implies, I set my expectations to eat only Spaghetti dishes, one after the other. But after scanning the menu, I found that they offered so much more than Spaghetti.

We made ourselves comfortable on our seats while waiting for our food. There wasn’t any wi-fi inside the restaurant, so I made use of the mall’s wi-fi instead. They also had an outlets available for the customers’ use.

In a short while, the attendants served our food one by one. In usual blogger fashion, we had to take photos of the food while showing great restraint from tasting it. Everything looked delicious!

Spinach Cheese Dip (Php 139)

I started my meal with their appetizer, the Spinach Cheese Dip. Being a fan of Cyma’s Spinach and Artichoke Dip, I can say that Spaghetti Factory’s Spinach Cheese Dip is at par with that of Cyma’s. It’s incredibly cheesy and tasty! And even after the crostinis were consumed and there were some of the dip left, I made sure to eat all of it. I will gladly eat this on its own, even without the bread, any day. It’s also affordable at Php 139.

Creme of Pumpkin Soup (Php 129)

When we got to the soup, we realized we took too long taking photos that we had to ask for the soup to be reheated. The staff was very accommodating and gladly attended to our request. The Creme of Pumpkin Soup was served in a freshly baked bread bowl, carved inside to accommodate the creamy soup. What I liked about this is that it was so filling. You will easily get full if you finish all the soup and the bread bowl. Also, you don’t waste anything because you eat the bowl along with the soup, haha!

Asian Salad (Php 169)

Their Asian Salad will definitely be a hit with people who are not a fan of greens. It has tender chicken breast fillet, tofu, and fresh mango strips, with a special Asian dressing that made all the difference. The dressing was sweet and extra creamy. The salad was served on a crispy shell which you can eat too!

Homemade Ravioli Four Cheeses (Php 259)

Another crowd favorite, the Homemade Ravioli Four Cheeses was a perfect combination of four cheeses and herbs, covered with a Spaghetti Facotory special cream – honey sauce and topped with Parmesan. Extremely cheesy! The ravioli has a cheese filling in the core, so you find yourself in cheese bliss with every bite into the layers of the ravioli. You will be cleaning your plate in no time.

Mafia Style Pasta (Php 199)

Have I mentioned that all their pasta dishes are sold at Php 199? It’s like forever on promo, and it’s too good to be true, so I hope they don’t decide to increase the prices ever. We tried the Mafia Style Pasta, and the Italian Sausage slices on the pasta won my heart. It was juicy and slightly spicy and added flavor to the dish. The pasta was tomato-based, sour more than sweet. The best part is that if you’re not fond of the Penne pasta, you can have it changed to other pasta variations that are available! At no extra cost.

Norwegian Salmon (Php 259)

If you’re a fan of salmon, you’ll like Spaghetti Factory’s Norwegian Salmon. It has an interesting combination of Norwegian Salmon with Mango Mustard Sauce, and the sweet sauce makes everything wonderful. It also has a healthy mix of vegetables on the sides, a complete rice dish to satisfy the palate.

As if we weren’t happy enough with everything we’ve had, dessert happened.

Spaghetti Factory Desserts: Left: Oreo-Flavored Milkshake; Right Top: Tiramisu; Right Bottom: Panna Cotta

Tiramisu (Php 129)

Spaghetti Factory’s Tiramisu provokes all kind of sugar lust on me. Luckily, two of my companions were not fond of sweets. More for me and Gay, yay! The Tiramisu is a rich Italian cream cheese cake covered with chocolate syrup and topped with colorful sprinkles and a chocolate wafer stick. The presentation was made nicer with the sprinkle of cocoa powder, which did not really taste well (it’s not Milo or any chocolate milk, if you’re wondering), but it made the cake 10x more photogenic, right? :)

Panna Cotta (Php 119)

The Italian version of the Leche Flan, the Panna Cotta, is basically a smooth adn egg-free custard dish. It was topped with sweet blueberry jam. As with most of their dishes, they did well in making the Panna Cotta look expensive, instead of serving it in a shot glass or a cup. And it’s only Php 119 for a whole serving, something big enough for two to three people to share.

Oreo-flavored Milkshake (Php 109)

The Oreo-flavored Milkshake is good enough as a dessert. Served chilled in a tall glass, this drink will turn your day around if your having a bad day. Seriously, milkshakes are good at making people happy. I’ve never seen anyone drink a milkshake while crying. Yum!

Price Range: Php 120-260 (Per Dish). Php 300 Per Person

I am a big pasta lover. My carb preference would be pasta over rice, any day. So I really regret not knowing about Spaghetti Factory eons ago. Why has the universe kept this from me all these years?? Kidding aside, I’m sure not a lot of you knew about Spaghetti Factory before this. Their name is an ultimate misnomer, but a welcomed one. Filipinos easily associate pasta with the more famous noodle type, which is the Spaghetti. And how are we all missing out on their awesome All Pasta Any Pasta-sauce Combo for Php 199 promo? If I knew about it earlier, I would have tried all kinds of pasta in their pasta directory already. Plus, it’s a great chance to brush up on your Pasta knowledge and get you acquainted with the rare and special types of pasta you’ve been missing out on all these years. Who knows what you might discover?

Check out Spaghetti Factory today at the Third Floor of the Ayala Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu. Of course, for those in Manila, they have a branch at the Second Level New Glorietta 1 at Ayala Center in Makati.
