Christmas in Ayala Center Cebu + The Ayala Center Cebu New Wing

I had the chance to spend some time at Ayala Center Cebu last week, and it looks so perked up for Christmas! Not to mention, the Ayala Center Cebu expansion opened to the public last December 11, 2013. There were still many stores yet to open, but for now, the new wing is home to twenty establishments that have started operation on the same day of the new wing’s unveiling.

I found one of my favorite flip flop shops, Bambu, opened store in the new wing. Also, crowd favorite Daiso drew in the people with their “All Items for Php 88 each”. I got myself a cute pink iPhone 4s cord to match my phone <3 But I had to wait in line for twenty minutes to pay for that single item, haha!

Other shops that I’m looking forward to visit are The Face Shop, Pepper Lunch, Apple Store, Superdry and Zara. It’s so much more fun now at Ayala Center Cebu with all the fabulous establishments that are soon opening to cater to the Cebu crowd.

Walking around the other parts of the mall, I chanced upon the Marriott Ginger Bread House. And they weren’t kidding when they said it was made of bread. You’d see the walls scarred by desperate attempts to claw off pieces from the house.

Too rare not to have my photo taken in front of Marriott’s Gingerbread House

And then there was this huge Christmas tree brightened up by lanterns shaped like puso (hanging rice)! Puso is a small mound of steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves, and sold at Php 3-5 per piece. Puso is widely sold on the streets by street vendors to complement a wide range of viands (anything imaginable, actually).

A closer look at the tree shows handcrafted ornaments made from recycled magazine pages, rolled and shaped into a star. Along with it is a message from mallgoers and shoppers, mostly Christmas greetings, and some with words of inspiration for those affected by the Super Typhoon Yolanda.

This Christmas tree in Ayala Center Cebu stands not only as a symbol of the yuletide season, but as a symbol of hope and strength.

Have a Merry Christmas at Ayala Center Cebu! -HANA
