Nozumi Japanese Casual Dining Restaurant, Ortigas, Pasig City

In Japanese, the name Nozumi stems from two words: nao and mi, which translates to hope and great expectations, two things that the restaurant aspires to meet with their service and food quality.

We had the great privilege of trying out Nozumi for ourselves last November 9, 2013, as they graciously welcomed bloggers and celebrities for The Red Pastries’ Sweet Launch. Here’s how it fared:

Nozumi’s food presentation will lure you in, especially with novel offerings such as the Green Maki, and the Sweet Crazy Maki. Taste-wise, I had a great liking for the Nozumi Baked Salmon with Cheese, even though the concept looked so simple. It tasted great, and provided a huge portion of Salmon. I don’t think anyone can say to no a big slab of juicy, flavorful salmon, with melted cheese on top. I think I would like it better if the cheese was still warm and melted on the salmon’s surface when served, but nevertheless, it tasted delicious.

The Tofu Steak was very soft. I’m not really sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but the tofu’s softness made it difficult to pick up with the chopsticks. A spoon would probably more useful in enjoying the Tofu Steak. The Beef Teriyaki, mixed in with green bell pepper and carrot slices, was a flavorful choice for lunch.

The sushi tasted great, but would be so much better if the rice was packed tighter and did not crumble when picked up.

The restaurant offered the view of Ortigas from the sixth floor, with their wide stretch of tall windows lining a portion of the restaurant. It also has a small stage area like the ones you see in a bar. Nozumi has two function rooms that can probably fit twenty in one room, for formal meetings and small gatherings. The restaurant looked expensive, but the price range of their menu items won’t burn a hole in your wallet. The location is easily accessible, as it is located at the sixth floor of One Corporate Center in Ortigas, some ten to fifteen minute-walking distance away from SM Megamall.

Price Range: Php 150-300

Overall, Nozumi offers fair value for money. While I don’t see myself visiting the place on a random day to try out their dishes, I can imagine using their function rooms for the mini-events I have in mind. The accessible location makes it a perfect venue for gatherings and events. -HANA
