My beautiful date for the day

No, I haven’t gone lesbian. That’s Justine, my beautiful best friend. We had a date last Friday at SM Marikina, and happened to pass by TCB. TCB had us at “Unlimited Coffee and Cakes.” And for only Php 200/person, it was an offer difficult to refuse.

First plates of cake

We only had four choices of cakes to choose from. Looking at the shelf, you can only choose from the cakes on the second layer. I got the slice of Blueberry Cheesecake for me, and Justine got a Caramel cupcake. I got brewed coffee, and Justine opted for the iced coffee. The Blueberry Cheesecake seemed very inviting, but without the layer of graham underneath, I lost interest in it after a few bites.

I also got to try the Caramel cupcake and found that it was just the right sweetness. I figured that I liked it so much compared to other caramel cupcakes because their caramel is made of caramelized condensed milk. I’m not sure about that, but the consistency is very close to that of the condensed milk. I loved the caramel cupcake best among the four cake flavors we tried.

The rule is you have to finish your slice of cake before you can have another one. So it’s one cake at a time. Here’s a photo of my third slice of cake and it is super fudgy:

The chocolate was really thick, that by the time I was midway into eating this slice, I think it was already difficult to swallow and I am full from the four cake slices I had.

In an attempt to analyze what’s sulit and how to make it worth the Php 200, I would estimate that each slice of cake costs around Php 30, and a cup of coffee around Php 60 (fair value). So, if you ever want to get your value for money, just try out all the four cake flavors available for the promo and enjoy your coffee. Of course, if you’re still not yet overloaded on the sugar after four cake slices, then by all means, eat more!

We were also not informed by the attendant about an upgrade to the promo, which I read later on their TCB’s Facebook fanpage. If you’re willing to pay an additional Php 100, you can expand your choices to the premium cakes and coffee selection. While the attendant should have offered the upgrade immediately, I think I would have stuck with the regular promo even if I knew about it. Just so that I have a baseline to compare it with next time. But the premium cakes looked delectable, too!

This would have been so much more fun if the place had wi-fi. Unfortunately, they didn’t. But I remember they had magazines available for the customers’ use. And if you’re eating with a friend you can talk with for hours, that makes the experience all the more worthwhile.-HANA
