Spring Singapura : True To Its Singaporean Roots

Spring Singapura

Spring Singapura : Finest Cuisine From the Heart of Garden City

Before I set out to attend to Spring Singapura’s invite to sample their best dishes, along with some co-foodies, I had a funny conversation with my mom, which went something like:

Mom: Saan ka pupunta ngayon? (Where are you going now?)

Hana: Ma, sa Spring Singapura sa Metrowalk. (Ma, to Spring Singapura at Metrowalk)

Mom: Ano food dun? (What food do they serve?)

Hana: Umm.. Singaporean?

It was funny because the name already gave it away, yet my mom still asked me what kind of food they will serve. And yes, it is Singaporean to the core. Spring Singapura originated as a franchise from its parent company, the Crab Party, which is globally awarded in Singapore. This means that the choosiest of culinary critics have bestowed recognition to the brand, as they hailed Crab Party’s Singaporean Chili Crabs as one of the best in Lion City.

This is exactly what brought us to try Spring Singapura: with the promise that  one of the best in Singapore has come to the metro for the foodies to discover.

Spring Singapura

Spring Singapura is located at AG-9 Metrowalk Complex at Meralco Ave in Pasig City. Even with the amount of restaurants and food establishments in the complez, it is impossible to miss. The first to welcome you would be this chef holding up photos of Spring Singapura’s specialty dishes.

Spring Singapura

Just before entering, you’ll find banners displaying their best dishes pinned against their white wall. A sneak peek of what’s to come.

Spring Singapura

The place looks very classy and expensive because of the interiors: cozy red chairs and glass chandeliers. It’s very tidy, and despite the number of chairs and tables, allows space to move around.

Iced Tea

We were served a tall glass of iced tea, with a slice of lemon in place. There really should be nothing special about serving Iced Tea, but we liked what we tasted. The Iced Tea is not your ordinary powdered iced tea that is commercially served in other places. You will not find it too sweet. It was as if they took a tea bag and prepared the iced tea with it. It was truly, and irrevocably Iced tea, to the truest sense of the word. Again, it’s nothing special. It was just that sort of a good surprise that you get when you’re not expecting :)

Laksa Soup

The Laksa Soup, as all laksa soups are, is spicy. I am a fan of spicy things, and I loved the Laksa Soup that I drank from the soup bowl too quickly. And it was only after that I have come to realize just how spicy it was. I gulped down my glass of iced tea without hesitation, to save my burning throat from the spice of the Laksa Soup. My advice is to savour the soup, and not try to drink from the soup bowl like I did.

Also, a bowl of Laksa Soup is good for four to five people.

Hainanese Fragrant Chicken Rice 68php

As you know, I am not a big rice eater, so I wasn’t especially excited to down the bowl of Chicken Rice that was served to us. I think that the Chicken Rice is not meant to taste like chicken. I would say that the Chicken Rice is the best type of rice to bring out the taste of a chicken dish.

Honey Crispy Baby Squid 358php

Spring Singapura’s Crispy Baby Squid was a good appetizer. It was tasty and somewhat sweet, thanks to the sauce. It is also very crispy.

Spring Singapura

Hainanese Chicken

As one of my co-foodies explained, the Hainanese Chicken is bland when eaten on its own. You need the help of the three sauces to bring out the taste of the Hainanese Chicken. The brown sauce was delicious as well.

Spring Singapura

Steamed Swimmer Lapu-lapu in Hong Kong Sauce – 128php/100g

Spring Singapura’s Steamed Swimmer Lapu-lapu in Hong Kong Sauce was a favorite. The fish was cooked well, and the meat was very juicy.

Spring Singapura

Brazilian Coffee Pork Ribs – 388php

This was another group favorite: The Spring Singapura Brazilian Coffee Pork Ribs. The meat was very juicy and tender to bite. The taste had depth, it wasn’t just sweet like pork ribs are usually cooked. However, I seemed to have missed the coffee taste.

Spring Singapura

Twin Taste Bokchoy Stir Fry Spicy Chicken Floss – 268php

The Twin Taste Bokchoy Stir Fry Spicy Chicken Floss is a mix of broccoli and cauliflower, with a dash of spice. The orange powder is responsible for the hint of spice in the mix.

Spring Singapura

Cereal Prawn

Probably my favorite among the bunch, Spring Singapura’s Cereal Prawn had the two things in the world that is difficult to resist: Sweet Cereals and giant prawns. A treat the kids would love because of the sweet crushed cereals that was all over the giant prawns. I think that my only problem with this dish is that the prawn shell was difficult to peel. It must have been overcooked to the point that the shell stuck to the meat.

Chef John of Spring Singapura

As if all the good Singaporean food isn’t enough, Chef John comes out of the kitchen and presents us their specialty crab dishes: The Chili Crab Specialty, and the Black Pepper Crab Specialty.

Spring Singapura

Black Pepper Crab Specialty 168php/gram

Spring Singapura’s Black Pepper Crab Specialty dish relied on the taste the pepper sauce provided. The taste was deep and dark, and the crab meat was juicy.

Spring Singapura

Chili Crab Specialty 168php/100gm

Between the Black Pepper Crab and the Chili Crab, I would have to say that the Chili Crab won for me. It swam in Chili Sauce, which made sure you get to enjoy the taste thoroughly. Another tip: ask for help in breaking the crab shells.

Price Range: 300-500php

I feel that some of the dishes had small servings and was priced steep. I also felt that most dishes relied heavily on the sauces, but as long as the sauces were good, overall the dish won’t disappoint. The pricing of the crab relied on its weight, so I can’t really give you an idea on how much the crab dishes are, because we weren’t told their weight.

I loved that Spring Singapura offered delectable Singaporean food. They also deliver, cater, accept bulk orders and are open for functions, parties and other events. If you have the budget, don’t hesitate to try the best of Singapore’s cuisine at Spring Singapura. -HANA
