Cupcakes are heaven-sent desserts sworn to make it difficult for little girls like me from dieting. I mean, really, how can you resist a cupcake? They’re so cute and colorful, not to mention they pack a burst of flavor despite how small they are. Cupcakes are proof that good things really do come in small packages.
One afternoon, I got the opportunity to visit GIGI Coffee and Cupcakes at Eastwood Corporate Plaza. Eastwood isn’t a place I normally hang out, but later found out that it’s very near my place, about twenty to thirty minutes away if I take a cab. And GIGI just might be my next happy place in Eastwood, with its quaint cafe which is very easy to find.
GIGI Coffee and Cupcakes was born from the partnership of Gigi Gaerlan, Joey Luna, Dondi Gaite, and Cynthia & Ivy Almario. It has been in business since July of 2012.
Aside from cupcakes and coffee, they also have other pastries and bottled drinks to enjoy.
They also provide these cute cupcake toppers with sweet messages (as if the cupcakes aren’t sweet enough) for when you’re giving the cupcakes as a present to someone.
And have you tried these cupcake lip gloss? It would be a fun addition to your kikay kit.
They even have a hand-held fan shaped like an ice cream to cool you off during a hot day.
The interiors were pretty neat, too! It was designed by Cynthia and Ivy Almario, two of the co-owners of GIGI.
They said that they wanted to give the interiors and outdoor feel, sans the pollution and heat, and they did just that! The interiors make you feel that you’re just lounging outside with a cupcake in one hand and a cold coffee on the other.
And now, for the cupcakes!
Because I am such a sweet-tooth, I tried four of the seven different flavors. It was really sugar-rush!
GIGI’s Red Velvet Cupcakes are to die for! The base cake, or the cupcake itself minus the topping was very moist. People usually the lack of moistness in cupcakes a problem, and GIGI’s definitely did not disappoint. They have the most moist cupcakes I have ever sank teeth into.
GIGI’s Green Tea Cupcake is my number two favorite among the eight flavors. Some may find it a little too sweet, but coupled with the wonderful base cupcake, the sweetness is okay for me. If you’re not a fan of green tea flavor, don’t worry because the green tea flavor in this cupcake is very subtle and won’t off you.
GIGI’s Salted Chocolate Cupcake provided a balance between sweet and salty. With bits of rock salt on top, this cupcake definitely has an interesting flavor, shifting from sweet to salty and vice versa.
I fell in love with GIGI’s Raspberry Cupcake because it was so pink and pretty. Unfortunately, for a sweet-tooth like me, and despite having eaten three cupcakes before this one, the Raspberry Cupcakes were too sweet for me. I was expecting that somehow, I wouldn’t taste how sweet it was anymore with all the cupcakes I ate before I tried this one, but I found the sweetness overpowering. This might appeal to the hardcore sweet-tooths.
GIGI takes pride in the moistness of their cupcakes, with their tagline, “A great cupcake starts with a great cake”. I do agree that even without the frosting/ topping, the cupcake itself is a wonderful treat. What’s so special about their frosting is that GIGI develops them differently from the usual butter or shortening-based icing found on other cupcakes. The secret? We’ll never know. But that’s what makes GIGI Cupcakes great, the mystery of their cupcakes that others will never get to recreate on their own.
I took home with me a dozen of GIGI Cupcakes. Priced at 40php per piece, 235 pesos for half a dozen, and 455 pesos for one dozen, these cupcakes are a steal. It’s a great treat which you’ll be happy to gift to someone else. I loved the sleek packaging of the cupcakes as well.
I didn’t get to refrigerate these babies immediately since I had to run off to a three-hour event after my visit to GIGI. When I got home, I found that the cupcakes were still very much intact and retained their moistness, save for the Raspberry one, the topping of which seemed to be sliding off.
After all those photos of delicious and super-moist cupcakes, I am sure you are craving for some right now! Go get your hands on these affordable cupcakes at GIGI Coffee and Cupcakes, Eastwood. They’re open from 7 AM to 11 PM from Monday to Saturday, and 11 AM to 8 PM on Sundays.
