Oz the Great and the Powerful Movie Screening c/o Nuffnang, Abenson, and Nokia Lumia

Last March 7, we got to watch a special movie screening of the movie Oz the Great and the Powerful at Shang Cinepelz, Shangri-la, Ortigas. The movie starred James Franco as Oz, a struggling magician from Kansas, who, by a twist of events (no pun intended), stumbled upon the land of Oz. In Oz, she meets Theodora, played by Mila Kunis, who tells him that he is the wizard that the land of Oz has been waiting for to defeat the evil witch, who has been threatening and wreaking havoc to the kingdom. Later on, Oz is introduced to Evanora (Rachel Weisz), the sister of Theodora. Evanora prompts Oz to take on the evil witch of the land, and only then can he claim the throne and the riches of Oz. A series of events uncovers the truth about the kingdom, and puts Oz the magician in a bind because of everyone’s expectations that he was truly the wizard who has the power to defeat the evil in their land. Watch the trailer below:

I liked that the movie was a fresh take on the Wizard of Oz story that we have been familiar with. Disney practically turned the land of Oz into a land of magic. Every nook and corner of Oz was a burst of color, which I believe kids and kids-at-heart would love. The plot was, or course, very fairytale like, with good and evil fighting over a kingdom, and, well, you know the drill. It was a fun movie, and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

My favorite character in the bunch would probably be Finley (the Monkey). I think that Finley’s character provided the humor that made the movie very enjoyable to the non-target audience (read: adults). James Franco’s Oz is my second favorite character, because I found it funny how he’d always fake his way through everything, even through adversity, making illusion and deceit work for him against all odds.

As a MUA, of course, I cannot help but admire the makeup artistry done to the wonderful women trio of Oz
