April 24-30 Splurge + First Impressions

Hello! I am, again, squandering what’s left of my life savings on things that make me happy. More makeup! And this time, more NYX makeup!
From L-R: NYX Matte Smokey Look : One Night in Morocco Palette, NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss, NYX Lipliner in Citrine, NYX Diamond Sparkle Lipstick in Sparkling Rose, and an unbranded gel liner, which Eunizel Tam, owner of Beauty’s Treasure, from which I bought these great items, was nice enough to throw in as a freebie <3

First up is NYX Matte Smokey Look: One Night in Morocco. My mom fell in love with this palette at first sight, and I just knew I had to get it for her for Mothers’ Day. It has eight shades of shadows, one eyelid primer, and four shades of lip creams. No swatches for this one, of course, since I’m giving it to my mom. I’ve read one review though that the primer doesn’t work great as a primer, but it works well enough for a base for the eyeshadows. It was also mentioned that the lip creams were rather sad, and not really formulated well. So most probably the only thing great about this palette is the combination of matte eyeshadow shades (which my mom wanted in the first place). The lip creams are located in a sliding compartment under the eyeshadow/primer area. I think that it’s a nice palette especially for working girls who don’t want any loud shadows gracing their eyelids. The colors are gentle, but not dead.

Next is NYX Lipliner in Citrine. I’ve been meaning to get my hands on a lipliner for the longest time, because I’ve read in one blog that it helps keep lipstick in place for hours. I used to snob lipliners, but I instantly changed my mind when I read the line “keep lipstick in place for hours”.

Citrine is a great color, it’s not too pink or too red. It’s a little bright and shimmery, but not glittery. As for keeping lipsticks in place, I can’t attest to that yet. I’ll probably start a lipliner experiment with this one + my favorite NYX Round Lipstick in Tea Rose. NYX Round Lipsticks are known to last only for about two hours tops. They have poor staying power, but for the price you’re paying for those highly pigmented and creamy lipsticks, we’re in no position to complain. I wonder if I can extend it’s staying power by using a lipliner prior to the application of my NYX Round Lipstick. Hmm..

One other item I got is NYX Diamond Sparkling Lipstick in Sparkling Rose (Take note of the overuse of the word, “Sparkling”; they weren’t kidding). In fact, this lipstick is really glittery and shimmery. It’s creamy and easy to apply on the lips. I like the color as well, although I’d love something more pink than this. Sparkling Rose is a little lighter and a little whiter than my favorite Tea Rose color.

I forgot to take a photo of my NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss, but I’ll discuss my first impressions of it here. The smell reminds me of some fruity candy. It’s strong but not annoying, IMO. Like Sparkling Rose, it’s not as pink as I’d want it to be, but the shade’s alright for a gloss.
Swatch time!

You might have noticed by now the way I post process my photos. Rest assured that despite the post processing, I try very hard to be faithful to the color and to reflect in my photos the actual shades of the products. This photo of the product swatch on my hand suffered from very minimal editing. This was taken with my back on the window sill at around 5 pm, no flash.

I bought these items from Beauty’s Treasure on Facebook, owned by Eunizel Tam, from Zamboanga City. IT was also from her that I got my S118 NYX Box of Eyeshadows Palette, which I adore to bits. If you’re interested in buying these adorable products, do add her on Facebook, and check out her albums. She offers not only NYX products, but also MAC, Rimmel, STILA, Smashbox, and many more!
PS: Beauty’s Treasure and I am cooking up something to make your summer more exciting! A giveaway’s coming up! So stay tuned! We’re going to announce it very very soon! <3

By the way, if you’re wondering why I’ve been raving about NYX a lot.. well, it’s because I find NYX products very cost-effective. For a practical girl like me, I don’t need high end makeup (although I’d love to buy if I had the money :) As long as it does what it’s ought to do, it’s good enough for me.

How about you? Any interesting buys lately? Let me know!
